Gameweek 2 just ended and managers must be thinking if it is wise to use their wildcard now and shift around their team to replace the deadwood with better options that will stop them from falling behind the leaders of the pack.
Harry Kane, Son, James Rodriguez, Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison are just some of the names that managers must be pondering over but here in this article we are going to tell you who the budget buys you should seriously be considering if you want to free up some money to purchase the aforementioned players and maybe a De Bruyne, Salah or Aubameyang.
Goalkeepers
Dean Henderson, who was on loan with Sheffield United last season, was the name on everybody’s lips in the 19/20 FPL season but sadly Manchester United decided to keep him as deputy to De Gea this season, dampening FPL managers’ hopes everywhere.
If you are looking for your very own Henderson this season, then look no further then to Emiliano Martinez, who most recently completed his move from Arsenal to Aston Villa. In his first game in the weekend past, the £4.5 million goalkeeper saved a penalty while keeping a clean sheet which earned him 13 points including 2 bonus points.
Another option of a £4.5 million goalkeeper is Mathew Ryan. While the Brighton shot stopper could not help his team out in the 3-1 loss to Chelsea on gameweek 1, he amassed 7 points in gameweek 2 against Newcastle by keeping a clean sheet.
Defenders
The highest scoring defender of gameweek 2 was a surprise in the name of Ezri Konsa, a £4.5 million defender from Aston Villa. By scoring 1 goal and recording a clean sheet against Sheffield United, he got 15 points.
Tariq Lamptey has been a menace and a pain in the ass for opposing teams in the past 2 gameweeks. Although only scoring 7 points in total against Chelsea and Newcsastle, a £4.5 million defender who ventures further up the pitch and has recorded an assist in each of the 2 games is surely a decent buy. He missed out on the clean sheet against Newcastle as he was substituted in the 57th minute. A doubt for the next game but definitely one to look out for once he is back to full fitness.
The third option at £4.5 million that will be worth the look at is Leicester’s James Justin. Filling in for the now Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell, James has scored 16 points in 2 gameweeks including a goal and an assist to his name.
If you a looking for the cheapest option of £4 million, then look no further than Crystal Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell. He has earned 11 points including an assist against Manchester United. He will be in the Palace’s lineup for some time given that Van Aanholt has been sidelined indefinitely.
Midfielders
The Leeds duo of Helder Costa and Mateusz Klich have earned 19 and 18 points respectively with a total combination of 4 goals and 3 assists. Both have seen their price increased to £5.6 million, but that should not deter you from having a go at them as Leeds are known for their goal scoring prowess having already scored a total of 7 games in 2 gameweeks.
The other 2 options at £5.6 and £5.5 million are Wolves’ Daniel Podence and Leicester’s Praet. Podence has recorded 11 points thus far with 1 assist in each of his games whereas Praet has recorded 14 points with an assist and a goal to his name.
Slightly cheaper options at £5 million brings us to look at Chelsea’s Jorginho and Arsenal’s Dani Ceballos. Jorginho, the appointed penalty taker for Chelsea who only missed his first penalty in a Chelsea shirt in gameweek 2, scored 12 points in gameweek 1 against Brighton by scoring from the penalty spot and providing an assist. Ceballos on the other hand only briefly featured in the first game while playing 90 minutes in the second game and earned 9 points with an assist to his name.
Forwards
Taking a look at the cheapest option available, Connolly from Brighton will be your best bet to save some money and get you some goals along the way. He has already played 134 minutes in 2 games and with the 1 goal to his name in gameweek 2 he has 9 points. The rotation between him, Neal Maupay and Leandro Trossard in the forward line will need to be taken note of but at £5.5 million, what more could you ask for.
Another gem of a budget player who started at £5.5 million but saw his price increased to £5.7 million immediately and would be a shoe in at most FPL teams is Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford. With 2 goals and 2 assists, he currently has the third highest points among forwards with 21 points.
At £5.9 million sits the usual suspect in FPL teams every season, Crystal Palace’s Andre Ayew. His price has dipped from £6 million but being a regular starter for Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace side and with their fixture list looking pretty easy on the eye, we reckon that he will add many more goals to his name along the way.
Lastly, we check out Fulham’s Mitrovic. The striker who scored 26 goals in the Championship last season opened his account in the EPL in gameweek 2 against Leeds United with 2 goals. Although it looks impossible for him to be able to reach the amount of goals he had last season, he should be good enough for at least 10 goals and as a budget forward, that would be some quality.
